2016: What a year. The internet joked that you might have been the worst year to date, and yeah, you did some crazy shit… Trump *cough cough*. Things got weird for a while there, and I imagine it’ll be rough for a while. But we will come together to create some good in the world. But for me, 2016, you did me proud. I saw A LOT of new places, people, and things. This was a year of exploration and great growth for me.

It started by me attempting to move to LA and promptly realizing it wasn’t the right time for me. Driving out west was an amazing experience and allowed me to see new places like Memphis, Little Rock, Oklahoma City, some of Texas, Albuquerque, Sedona, and the Grand Canyon. But then Europe happened and changed my world. I saw Amsterdam, Venice, Lake Como, Cinque Terre, Positano, Sorrento, Florence, Tuscany, Rome, Santorini, and Athens; to name a few. My wanderlust continued in the states when I went back to LA, traveled out to the desert to Joshua Tree and Salvation Mountain and then to Seattle and the beautiful nature that surrounds it. Denver was next. I can’t forget my trip to Harry Potter World which was {magical}. Ending the year in the Cayman Islands was pretty cool too.

I spent time with my favorite people; family and friends. My cousin got married and is having a baby! I attended my first Pride ! Met Ellen Page. Oh and my best friend got engaged! Thank you 2016! Let’s make 2017 just as epic!

Things I Learned in 2016:

  1. Money is not the motive. Reduce materialism and live more simply.
  2. Don’t keep making an effort for people who don’t make one back.
  3. Travel is important for self-growth. Do it more and don’t make excuses.
  4. Don’t let people tell you how you should live your life. Whatever makes you happy is they way you should do it. Society has an expected outline that requires everyone to follow suit. Don’t be afraid to detach yourself from a society you do not agree with.
  5. You have one life and you cannot spend even one second of it in a way that suppress you and your ability.
  6. Similarly, there are some occasions however where you can’t do everything you want to do exactly they way you want to do it. Adjust your method in order to reach a similar outcome.
  7. Live within your means. Waiting to “someday” be rich and do all these things that you will someday maybe be able to afford is a waste of the now. More likely than not you will not magically be rich some day. Do what you can now. Live in a cheap place so you can do more.
  8. Traveling affordably is possible.
  9. You do not need a relationship to be whole.
  10. Being involved politically is not something to be ashamed of.
  11. ^ Contrary to popular belief, it is actually good to give a fuck about things, especially things that are important to humanity.
